3/7/2024 0 Comments Ithaca model 49 parts list![]() Wonderful little guns but the firing pin or bolt or something would break easily on some of them. These have a zinc alloy receiver that is anodized or painted.not blued. More flexibility in changing sights and more accuracy. The better model, after modification has the phony mag dove-tailed to the barrel so the front sight is not a barrel band sort of sight. The original ones had a phony mag tube with the front sight integrated into the barrel/mag band. The Ithaca 49 was modified at some point in time before they quit making it. I also have a Savage 89 with the Revelation brand name on it that does not work. Yes, Savage made the Model 89 from about 1975 to 1988 I think. The fact that it has the walnut stock means it was earlier than most now seen as the company switched the wood to gray elm at some point in time. So yours has a serial would probably make it at least 1968 or a bit later. The 49 did not have serial numbers at first when it came out in late 1961. I have studied the Ithaca 49 and other like rifles a bit. Ps CajunBass I have been watching my own little fawn grow for the past year and darn he's getting big now and bossy, snorting at the cat while he's out mouseing. For me that's no harm no foul territory., that I can live with. And those mis feeds can be cleared easily with a little plasticwand and flip out the problem shell. It feeds real smoothly now, but I do now very purposely cycle the action smoothly so if a mis feed does happen 1 to 2 times in fifty it is not the nerve racking experience of safely removing a severely bent casing. let it drip out and wiped it clean with lint free rags. Sprayed liberally with cleaner ( yes wd40, will get various gasps from some folks) then blew it dry and sprayed the guts again with aerosol gun oil and worked the action. I had the same problem with my 49R when I got it a few months ago Half feeding the shell, then jamming/pinching if you continued cycling the lever Didn't seem to matter if it was the first or 5th shell from the magazine tube (so doubted if mine was caused by a weak mag tube spring.) The only ammo it would feed somewhat reliably was Reminton subsonics 3 out of 5 times so. Very easy to load using that ramp built into the breach-block, and empties went flying when I dropped the lever.Įdited to add: I went and checked and this one has a rear sight, like the one in your picture. With Remingon shorts I was hitting "targets of opportunity" pretty consistently. I shot mine a few rounds yesterday evening. I had seen those pictures of yours on "The High Road" when I did a search. My son has it now.Įither way, we know they quit making them in '78 apparently, so it's at least thirty years old. The "SuperSingle" was sort of a "sister" to the M-49 in that it was a break action that used a under lever like a lever rifle to break the gun. Of course the law may have been different for shotguns than rimfire rifles too before 1968. I've got an Ithaca M-66 SuperSingle, 20 ga single shot shotgun, that I got for Christmas in 66 I guess, that has a S/N. ![]() Serial Numbers weren't required before the GCA68, but some manufacturers put them on anyway.
